Babors, Mountain range in Little Kabylie, Algeria.

The Babor Mountains are a granite mountain range in the Little Kabylie region with peaks that reach 2,004 meters and carry snow in winter. The range is protected as a nature reserve that shelters diverse wildlife and natural ecosystems.

This range forms part of the Tell Atlas system that has shaped the geographical boundary between the Mediterranean and Saharan regions for millennia. Its position made it an important landmark and natural barrier for the peoples who have inhabited northern Algeria throughout history.

The range holds deep meaning for Kabyle communities who have lived here for generations and maintain traditional knowledge of the mountain environment. You can see this connection in how local people use the land and pass down practices tied to the seasons and the terrain.

Visits are best during the warmer months when trails are easier to navigate and conditions are favorable for outdoor activities. It is wise to bring proper gear since the elevation and changing weather can be demanding.

The range is home to one of the last populations of the Barbary macaque, a rare primate found only here and in Morocco. Spotting these animals is a special experience that few places in the world can offer.
