Hostrups Have, Residential complex in Frederiksberg, Denmark
Hostrups Have is a residential complex in Frederiksberg made up of three five-story brick buildings with granite detailing and around 680 apartments. Every unit has a balcony, and the ground level includes a number of commercial spaces.
The foundation stone was laid in 1935 by Prime Minister Thorvald Stauning on the grounds of a former textile factory called Rubens. What had been an industrial site gradually became a residential part of the city.
The central garden holds two sculptures honoring figures from Danish arts and theater, placed where residents pass by on an ordinary day. They sit quietly among the paths and greenery, easy to spot without any special detour.
The complex sits close to several metro stations, making it easy to reach from the city center. A few shops and services within the grounds help visitors and residents get their bearings without leaving the site.
Among those who once lived here were future Prime Minister Jens Otto Krag and furniture designer Børge Mogensen, both before they became widely known. They were neighbors in this complex at a time when their most recognized work was still ahead of them.
