Guarromán, Mountain municipality in Sierra Morena, Spain
Guarromán is a municipality in Jaén Province located in the Sierra Morena at 345 meters elevation and connected through the district of La Carolina. The settlement sits within mountainous terrain with typical rural structures.
The town was established in the 18th century by King Carlos III as part of the New Towns of Sierra Morena program and originally housed German colonists around a former roadside rest station. This planned settlement initiative shaped regional development.
The Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción dominates the town center with its red sandstone facade from the 18th century. Inside, sculptures by artist Jacinto Higueras decorate the colonial-style space, offering a glimpse into local artistic heritage.
Visitors can explore the town best by walking through its narrow streets and visiting the church in the center. The best time to visit is outside the hottest summer months to enjoy the mountain slopes and rural surroundings more comfortably.
The municipal coat of arms features a red castle, silver crowned lion, fleurs-de-lis, and an arch bridge topped with a Royal crown. These symbols tell the story of royal appointment and European settlement heritage.
