Lanuza, Mountain village in Huesca Province, Spain.
Lanuza is a mountain village in Huesca Province situated on the left bank of the Gállego River at approximately 1284 meters elevation, surrounded by peaks of the Spanish Pyrenees. The houses spread along the water, with part of the original settlement now submerged beneath the reservoir.
In 1978, residents evacuated their homes to make way for a water reservoir project. This transformation caused the settlement to lose its status as an independent municipality and become part of Sallent de Gállego.
The Pirineos Sur festival brings international musicians to a floating stage on the reservoir, where audiences from across Europe gather each July to enjoy concerts directly on the water. The event has turned the place into a meeting point for music lovers who experience performances against the backdrop of the Pyrenean peaks.
The settlement is reachable through Santa Helena gorge and offers limited accommodation locally. For more lodging options, visitors can stay in nearby Sallent de Gállego, which has several hotels and additional services.
In the 1990s, former residents returned and repurchased their homes after discovering that only part of the village had actually been submerged. This resettlement allowed some buildings to be restored and reoccupied, giving the place a second life.
