Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Pilar

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Pilar is a place of worship in Canfranc-Estación in the Pyrenees with stone walls, precise light openings, and an aluminum roof that follows the mountainside slope. The complex also includes a parish office, archive room, event hall, and priest residence.

Architect Miguel Fisac designed this house of worship in 1965, and its consecration ceremony took place on December 14, 1969. The building came into being during a time when the region needed new religious facilities.

The interior holds religious artworks from different time periods, including a painted wooden crucifix from the 1500s and a statue of the Virgin from the 1700s. These pieces show how the place has kept its spiritual and artistic character through the centuries.

The church is accessible from the main road through Canfranc-Estación, and the building sits on a hillside with views of the surroundings. It is helpful to check visiting hours beforehand, as the church may have limited access depending on services or events.

The building's floor plan has a fan shape with a curved front wall that references the shell symbol associated with pilgrims traveling to Santiago de Compostela. This architectural detail connects the place of worship to one of Europe's major pilgrimage routes.
