Roman thermae of Valduno

The Roman thermae of Valduno is an ancient bathhouse featuring distinct chambers for cold, warm, and hot water treatments. The complex displays Roman construction methods with carefully laid stone walls and an ingenious heating system that distributed warmth throughout.

The site originated during Roman expansion into northern Spain and reflects the technological sophistication of the empire at that time. It demonstrates how Roman infrastructure and lifestyle became deeply established in this region during the imperial period.

The public baths served as gathering places where people came together to bathe and converse with neighbors and acquaintances. Daily routines centered on these facilities, where different members of the community would meet and interact.

The site is accessible on foot and the remains are straightforward to explore since main structures are exposed to view. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and allow time to walk through the different chambers to appreciate how the complex was organized.

Hidden passages run beneath the bathhouse where servants moved between chambers to adjust water temperatures and maintain the system. This underground network remained completely concealed from the guests using the facilities above.
