Ciste Dhubh, Mountain summit in Northwest Highlands, Scotland.

Ciste Dhubh is a mountain summit in the Northwest Highlands reaching 979 meters, marked by a pointed peak and dark rocky faces. The summit forms part of the Kintail range and sits within an area of interconnected high peaks.

The name Ciste Dhubh comes from Scottish Gaelic meaning Black Cist, referring to rocky fissures and possibly ancient burial sites in the area. The region evolved over centuries as a traditional landscape where climbing and route-finding skills were developed and passed down.

The mountain forms part of the traditional Highland landscape where Scottish mountaineering practices and navigation techniques developed through generations of local knowledge.

The climb starts from Cluanie Inn and follows a path to Bealach a' Choinich before crossing the southern shoulder. You will need experience with exposed terrain and solid navigation skills to move safely through the mountains.

This mountain sits at a junction of ridges that connects multiple neighboring summits, making it possible to climb four high peaks in a single extended hike. This multi-peak route is popular with seasoned hikers who want to cover significant ground in one outing.
