Sgùrr na Càrnach, Mountain summit in Northwest Highlands, Scotland.
Sgùrr na Càrnach is a 1,002-meter (3,287-foot) summit with steep slopes descending on both the eastern and western sides toward Glen Shiel and Coire Domhain. The peak sits amid rocky terrain offering views across the surrounding mountains.
The mountain gained independent status in 1997 when the Scottish Mountaineering Club confirmed its 134-meter prominence, distinguishing it from a neighboring summit. This recognition changed how climbers classify the peak.
The Gaelic name means 'peak of the stony place', which refers to the rocky, boulder-scattered ground you find at the summit.
Most hikers reach the summit via a loop route of about 11.6 kilometers, which presents a challenging climb. The ascent typically takes around four hours and requires good fitness.
The mountain forms the central point of the Five Sisters of Kintail, a group of three peaks that many visitors tackle together in a single day. Its middle position makes it a connecting point between the two other main summits.
