Sgùrr Fhuaran, Mountain summit in Northwest Highlands, Scotland
Sgùrr Fhuaran is a mountain in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland that rises to 1067 meters with prominent steep western slopes. These slopes dominate the landscape above Glen Shiel and form a distinctive profile when viewed from the valley.
The name potentially refers to 'Peak of wells or springs' because numerous water sources flow from its slopes into surrounding valleys. This hydrological character has shaped the local landscape for generations.
This mountain belongs to the Five Sisters of Kintail, where according to folklore, seven sisters were transformed into mountains by a wizard awaiting suitors.
The ascent begins at sea level in Glen Shiel following a grass path that leads to a steep climb along the western ridge near the A87 road. The climb requires secure footing and endurance due to exposed conditions on the upper sections.
Four distinct ridges extend from the summit and one of them provides a narrow eastern path as an alternative climbing route from Gleann Lichd valley. This alternative access makes the mountain rewarding for climbers who want to explore different approaches.
