Rhos Dirion, Mountain summit in Black Mountains, Wales

Rhos Dirion is a mountain summit in the Black Mountains of Wales rising to 713 meters with steep cliffs facing north. Peat bog and heather blanket much of the slope, shaping the terrain you see when climbing here.

The summit has served as a geographical reference point for the region and once received a triangulation marker for surveying purposes. This marking reflects the peak's historical importance for mapping the landscape.

Shepherds have used the slopes here for generations, maintaining traditional Welsh farming practices across the Black Mountains. The way people manage the grasslands reveals their deep connection to this mountain landscape.

Several hiking paths connect to the summit from different directions, including routes starting from Pen y Beacon Stone Circle and Capel-y-ffin. Trail difficulty varies, so consider your fitness level before choosing your route up.

The peak ranks as the 99th highest mountain among 3,092 summits across Wales. Though not the most towering, its position gives it an interesting standing among the region's ridges.
