Waun Fach, Mountain summit in Black Mountains, Wales
Waun Fach is a mountain summit in the Black Mountains of Wales that rises to about 811 meters with a rounded peak. The broad top is covered with thick peat deposits that shape the whole landscape of the summit area.
This mountain contains remains from the Iron Age and ancient pathways that linked Welsh communities across the Black Mountains region. These traces show that people have lived and moved through this area for many centuries.
The name Waun Fach comes from Welsh and means Little Moor, reflecting how local tradition names landscape features based on what they actually are. You can experience this connection to the land directly as you walk across the peaty slopes.
The summit is accessible through several walking routes, with the most direct path starting from the Pengenffordd car park area. Most routes involve moderate effort and the open terrain offers little shelter from the weather.
This is the third highest peak south of Snowdonia and offers views that stretch across the Grwyne Fechan valley toward Radnor Forest. From this vantage point you can see far into the surrounding mountain landscape.
