Channel, Lightvessel station in English Channel, Great Britain.
Channel Light Vessel is a lightvessel station located at the western end of the English Channel Traffic Separation Zone. It was equipped with navigation lights and electronic signals to guide ships through one of Europe's busiest shipping routes.
The station was established in 1979 in response to maritime safety concerns following a major tanker accident. It operated for over 40 years until it was replaced by a new buoy system in August 2021.
The vessel served as one of the 22 coastal weather stations that provided essential maritime information for the BBC Shipping Forecast.
The vessel was visible from far away and transmitted regular radio signals to guide nearby ships. The light signals and morse code were available at all times to help vessels navigate through the area.
Located 56 kilometers north-northwest of Guernsey, this station helped regulate maritime traffic in one of Europe's most active shipping corridors.
