Romanovs Palace, Royal residence in Likani, Georgia.
Romanovs Palace is a residential building in Likani featuring Moorish architectural elements combined with European design adapted to the humid climate. The structure displays different shapes on each side, giving it a varied appearance from different angles.
The building was constructed between 1892 and 1895 by architect Leon Benois for Grand Duke Nicholas Mikhailovich. This location later marked the site of the first hydroelectric installation in the Russian Empire.
The building reflects the tastes of its former inhabitants through precious objects such as a table from Napoleon and furniture from other European rulers. These collections tell stories about the connections between different dynasties and cultures of that era.
The building now serves as the summer residence of the Georgian President and contains a museum section with displays about the Romanov era. Visitors should note that this official status means access may be limited or require advance arrangements.
The central entrance features a porcelain parrot that moves with air currents, a small mechanical detail that visitors often miss. Another hidden detail is the butterfly bedroom, whose walls are covered with paintings of countless butterflies.
