Akhaltsikhe Museum

This museum sits within the rebuilt Rabati Fortress and displays more than 25,000 artifacts across multiple exhibition halls. The collection documents archaeological discoveries and cultural objects from the regional history of Samtskhe-Javakheti.

It opened in 1923 and moved to Rabati Fortress in 1972, taking its name from Georgian historian Ivane Javakhishvili upon relocation. This shift allowed the collection to be part of a larger historical site with multiple attractions in one place.

The displays feature everyday objects like farming tools, traditional clothing, wood carvings, and metalwork that reflect how people in this region lived and worked. These items show the customs and skills that shaped daily life for generations.

The museum is located inside the fortress complex, allowing visitors to explore multiple historical attractions in one place. It makes sense to plan time for both the museum and the fortress itself to experience the full site.

The coin collection includes rare denarii from the first century and Byzantine gold coins from the eleventh century found in the region. These pieces reveal the trade connections and economic exchanges that shaped this area across different periods.
