Abastumani is a mountain village in Samtskhe-Javakheti situated on the southern slopes of the Meskheti Range at around 1160 meters elevation. The settlement spreads along the left bank of the Otskhe River.
The village holds roots in the southern Caucasus region with long-standing Armenian and Georgian settlement traditions. Over time, demographic shifts transformed the community's character and size.
The Armenian community represents 18 percent of Abastumani's population, contributing to the multicultural character of this Samtskhe-Javakheti settlement.
The village is about 16 kilometers from the municipal center of Adigeni, reachable by car in roughly 20 minutes. Visiting during warmer months is advisable since mountain roads are more passable then.
The village holds the status of one of two boroughs within Adigeni Municipality, setting it apart from the numerous smaller settlements scattered throughout the region. This distinction makes it a key administrative and community hub.
