Prološko blato

Prološko blato is a protected wetland in the Imotski field that transforms into a seasonal lake. The water level varies dramatically throughout the year, with only a small section staying permanently submerged.

This karst field developed through natural limestone dissolution over thousands of years. It received official protection in 1971 to safeguard its unique ecosystem for future generations.

The northern hill named Manastir holds ruins of a Franciscan monastery that becomes isolated by water during high flood periods. This abandoned structure tells of religious communities who once lived in this remote area.

The site is best visited during warmer months when water levels are low and the terrain remains walkable. Winter brings heavy rainfall that floods the entire basin, so timing your visit makes a real difference.

One winter the entire basin may remain completely dry, while the next winter might submerge it entirely underwater. This extreme unpredictability makes each season a completely different experience.
