Tilinga Mandir, Hindu temple in Bordubi, Tinsukia district, India.
Tilinga Mandir is a Hindu temple in Bordubi where hundreds of metal bells of varying sizes hang from a central peepal tree on the grounds. The temple complex also features numerous Shiva tridents scattered throughout the property.
A Shiva Linga was discovered in 1965 by tea garden workers emerging from the ground near a banyan tree. This discovery led to the establishment of a temple at the sacred site.
Devotees donate bells to give thanks for answered prayers to Shiva. This tradition has transformed the temple into a place where gratitude takes the form of hanging metal offerings.
The temple is accessible by train through Tinsukia Town Station or by flight through Mohanbari Airport, followed by local transportation to Bordubi. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and prepare for varying weather conditions as the grounds are explored on foot.
The bells hanging from the peepal tree fall over time and are collected in designated areas of the temple, where their layered accumulation is visible. These collections give visitors a sense of how long the tradition of donating has been practiced.
