Bogibeel Bridge, Rail and road bridge in Dibrugarh, India.
Bogibeel Bridge is a steel road and rail crossing over the Brahmaputra River in Assam, spanning nearly 5 km (3 miles) between Dibrugarh and Dhemaji districts. The steel structure rests on concrete foundations and carries railway tracks on the lower level with a roadway for cars and trucks on the upper level.
Plans for a river crossing at this location began in the mid-1990s to better connect remote areas in northeastern India. Work continued over two decades until opening in late 2018.
Residents on both riverbanks use this crossing daily to reach work, school and markets. Families once separated by the wide river can now visit each other more easily and trade goods across communities.
Train passengers experience the crossing from below and see the steel trusses overhead, while drivers on the upper level have open views of the water. The best time for photographs is early morning when mist rises from the river.
The welding technique used on the steel trusses follows methods developed in Europe to withstand high humidity levels during monsoon seasons. This approach slows corrosion and helps the structure remain sound for decades.
