Castel San Pietro

Castel San Pietro is a medieval fortress perched on a hilltop above Verona, defined by tall stone walls and cylindrical towers that project outward. The structure overlooks the Adige River and commands views across the historic city center below.

The fortress stands on Roman foundations and received its present form during Austrian rule in the 19th century. These renovations reinforced the defenses and shaped the structure as it appears today.

The castle grounds contain an exhibition space dedicated to regional art collections and architectural displays representing different periods of Italian military construction.

You can reach the fortress by funicular railway from Piazza Castello or by climbing stone stairs through terraced gardens. Both routes are straightforward and take only a few minutes.

From the terrace you can see the Roman amphitheater, medieval bridges, and bell towers all in a single view. This vantage point reveals how the different layers of Verona's past overlap and relate to one another.
