Monte Friolànd, Mountain summit in Piedmont, Italy
Monte Friolànd consists of two separate peaks at 2738 meters connected by a gentle saddle at 2717 meters within the Cozie Alps. This formation creates distinct climbing routes and viewpoints from each summit.
The eastern peak marks a boundary point where three municipalities meet: Ostana, Bagnolo Piemonte, and Villar Pellice. Using mountain summits as territorial markers was a practical way to define administrative borders in earlier times.
Metal crosses and a large stone cairn called ometto sit at the summit, serving as markers that visitors have long recognized as significant to this place. These elements show how people have marked their presence here across time.
The main climbing route starts from Brich in Crissolo following marked path V11 to Colle delle Porte, then continues along the southeastern ridge. Proper footwear and fitness are important as sections become exposed and steep near the top.
When viewed from many locations across the Pinerolo plain, the mountain blocks the view of the taller Monviso peak. This capacity to hide a higher summit creates an interesting optical effect for observers looking from the lower valleys.
