Dentsu Building, Commercial skyscraper in Higashi-Shinbashi, Tokyo, Japan
The Dentsu Building is a commercial skyscraper with 48 above-ground floors and 5 underground levels located in Higashi-Shinbashi. Its glass facades reflect the surrounding urban landscape of the Shiodome district, and the structure connects directly to multiple subway stations through underground passages.
The building was designed by French architect Jean Nouvel and opened in October 2002 as a corporate headquarters. It was constructed on the site of the former Shiodome freight terminal.
Inside the building is the Advertising Museum Tokyo, where you can explore how Japanese marketing has evolved through old advertisements and promotional materials on display. The museum shows how visual styles and messaging have changed over the decades.
The building has 70 elevators making it easy to move between floors, and visitors can access different areas without difficulty. Underground passages connect the structure directly to nearby subway stations, offering convenient arrival without needing to go outside.
The structure has an unusual boomerang-shaped floor plan that sets its design apart from other towers in the city. This distinctive shape earned it both the BCS Prize and the Good Design Award.
