Shiodome City Center, Skyscraper in Shiodome, Tokyo, Japan
Shiodome City Center is a 43-story office tower in the Higashi-Shinbashi district that rises 216 meters above the surrounding streets. Its glass and steel facade creates a sleek profile that defines this rapidly redeveloped section of Tokyo.
The building opened in 2003, replacing the Shiodome Freight Terminal that had served as Tokyo's primary freight hub until 1987. This development marks the transformation of an industrial site into a modern business district.
American architect Kevin Roche designed this corporate structure, combining Japanese architectural principles with international commercial building standards.
The tower connects directly to Shiodome and Shimbashi stations, making it easy to reach by train. Inside you will find restaurants, shops, and public spaces that welcome visitors during business hours.
The city granted this structure an exceptional floor area ratio of 1200%, allowing for unusually high density in this location. This generous allowance reflected the site's importance to Tokyo's urban renewal plans.
