Asahi Shimbun Tokyo Head Office Building, Media headquarters in Chūō-ku, Japan
The Asahi Shimbun Tokyo Head Office Building is the main headquarters of a major Japanese newspaper publisher and stands prominently along the Sumidagawa River. The structure features amber-colored exterior walls and contains multiple floors of offices, newsrooms, and public access areas.
The newspaper company occupying this building was founded in 1879 and grew into one of Japan's most influential media organizations. The current structure was completed in the 1980s and reflects the publisher's decision to consolidate operations in a modern, centrally located office tower.
The building serves as a major newsroom where important Japanese journalism takes place and shapes public discourse. Passersby can see through the large glass facades into the working spaces where reporters and editors operate.
The building contains restaurants on its upper floors offering views of the river and the nearby Asakusa neighborhood. Visitors should note that many areas are active workspaces, but designated public areas feature cafes and exhibition spaces.
Adjacent to the main building sits Super Dry Hall, a beer hall where visitors can drink fresh draft beer while observing a large golden flame sculpture on the roof. This artwork has become a landmark feature of the area and remains visible from many vantage points along the river.
