En'yū-ji, Buddhist temple in Himonya, Tokyo, Japan.
The temple features a single-story building with a distinctive hip-and-gable roof that combines Chinese and Japanese architectural elements in its Main Hall.
Founded in 853 by Buddhist monk Ennin, the temple underwent a significant transformation in 1283 when it changed from Tendai to Nichiren Buddhism under priest Nichigen.
The Main Hall, designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, represents a rare example of medieval religious architecture in Tokyo metropolitan area.
Located at 1-22-22 Himonya in Meguro district, the temple is accessible within one minute walk from Enyuji bus stop or through a short walk from Meguro Station.
During the Edo period, the temple became a center of the Fuju-fuse movement, which strictly prohibited receiving offerings from or giving alms to non-believers.
