Sendai City Tomizawa Site Museum, Archaeological museum in Taihaku-ku, Japan.

The Sendai City Tomizawa Site Museum displays Paleolithic artifacts discovered beneath the city in an underground gallery built directly above the original dig sites. The collection includes stone tools, bone fragments, and other objects left behind by people who inhabited the area roughly 20,000 years ago.

The site was an important settlement during the Paleolithic and was discovered during modern construction projects in the city. The facility opened in 1996 to preserve these archaeological finds and make them accessible to the public.

The facility includes educational programs, interactive exhibits, and regular archaeological demonstrations that teach visitors about prehistoric Japanese civilization.

The underground exhibition is easy to navigate with clear signage, elevators, and ramps for different mobility needs. The museum sits about five minutes on foot from Nagamachi-Minami subway station and is straightforward to reach.

The exhibition preserves the original soil layer exactly as archaeologists found it, allowing visitors to see the excavation itself. This approach displays not just the objects but also the precise context in which they rested thousands of years ago.
