愛宕橋, Steel bridge over Hirose River in Sendai, Japan
The Atago Bridge spans 102 meters across the Hirose River, connecting the Taihaku and Wakabayashi districts with a width of 12.8 meters.
In 1900, engineer Saburo Saeki constructed the first suspension bridge at this location, charging a toll of 0.5 rin for crossing.
The bridge location holds spiritual significance due to the former Seigan-ji temple and Shinpuku-ji temple that existed near its banks.
The bridge serves pedestrians and vehicles, providing a direct route between Koshiro in Taihaku district and Tsuchitoi in Wakabayashi district.
The current PCT girder bridge structure replaced multiple previous versions that were destroyed by floods, including a major collapse in 1913.
