Ichihara Elephant Kingdom, Animal park in Ichihara, Japan
Ichihara Elephant Kingdom is an animal park in Ichihara, Japan, that houses ten elephants and 100 different animal species. Residents include camels and hippos, distributed across several themed zones within the grounds.
The park began operations in January 1989 and opened to the public on April 28 of the same year. Since its founding, the facility has continuously expanded its elephant program.
The park keeps the largest group of Asian elephants in Japan and serves as an important center for species conservation. Daily demonstrations show visitors the intelligence of these animals and their ability to work together with keepers.
A free shuttle bus from Kominato station brings visitors to the park, with advance booking recommended. The facility spreads across a large site with pathways connecting the different themed zones.
During shows at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM, the elephants hold brushes with their trunks and create paintings in front of visitors. These paintings are sometimes later sold in souvenir shops or auctioned for charity.
