Matsushige Lock Gate, Historical lock gate in Nakagawa-ku, Nagoya, Japan
The Matsushige Lock Gate features a Stoney-type mechanism that connects the Hori River with the Nakagawa Canal through a water level control system.
Built in 1930 and opened in 1932, the lock gate served as a vital transportation link between canals until its closure in 1976 due to reduced boat traffic.
The structure received recognition as a cultural property in 1986 and obtained additional protection status from Nagoya City authorities in 1993.
Located at coordinates 35.154203°N and 136.891914°E, visitors can access educational materials and signage explaining the gate's mechanisms and historical importance.
The lock gate demonstrates early 20th-century Japanese engineering through its specialized mechanism that managed different water levels between two major waterways.
