Sanshu Idutsu-yashiki is a traditional Japanese residence in Hiketa with a well-preserved wooden structure throughout. The building includes a classic tea room with sliding doors that open onto a garden featuring stone basins.

History

The house once belonged to a merchant who built his wealth through soy sauce and sake production. It was converted to a public facility in 2005 to preserve this heritage.

Culture

The house displays local craftsmanship, including glove-making traditions that remain important to the community. Visitors can observe how these skills are maintained and passed down through generations.

Practical

The house is accessible by public transportation with train connections from nearby major stations. It opens daily except Wednesdays, with visiting hours from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
