Akō Marine Science Museum, Science museum in Hyōgo Prefectural Akō Seaside Park, Japan
The museum features a 15,000-square-meter outdoor salt field with traditional salt-making equipment, displays, and an undersea globe showing global marine topography.
Established in 1987, the museum documents the evolution of salt production methods in Ako from the Heian period through the Edo and Showa periods.
The facility presents exhibits about Japanese salt production techniques, including irihama and ryuka methods, with demonstrations of traditional manufacturing processes.
The museum opens daily from 9:00 to 16:30 except Tuesdays, with admission fees of 200 yen for adults and 100 yen for students.
Visitors can observe three different historical salt field types and participate in salt-making experiences using seawater from the Seto Inland Sea.
