Rin'nō-ji, Buddhist temple in Taitō district, Japan.
The Rinnō-ji Temple stands within the grounds of Ueno Park, featuring traditional architecture with a main hall rebuilt in 1993 and the Rinnō-den funeral hall.
The temple gained prominence in 1654 when Prince Shuchō, the third son of Emperor Go-Mizunoo, became the third head priest of Kan'ei-ji and concurrent head of Mount Nikko.
The temple honors two Buddhist masters, Tenkai and Ryōgen, through dedicated worship spaces and religious ceremonies that maintain centuries-old Buddhist traditions.
Visitors can reach the temple through a 6-minute walk from Ueno Station's Park Exit, with the temple grounds open daily for religious services and tourism.
The temple houses a historic bell from 1651 and features the former main gate of Kan'ei-ji Temple, designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan.
