Hatonosu Ravine

Hatonosu Ravine is a natural rock formation in the mountains where steep cliffs tower above the flowing Tama River. The river has cut through ancient stone layers over a long time, creating this deep valley in the landscape.

The ravine formed through erosion as the Tama River cut into ancient paleozoic rock layers of the Chichibu region over many centuries. This slow natural process gradually created the landscape with its distinctive rock walls visible today.

The suspension bridge is a popular gathering point where visitors photograph seasonal changes in the local landscape. People come together here to capture the shifting views, especially when foliage transforms across the year.

The location is within walking distance from Hatonosu Station, with marked trails guiding you through the rock formations. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and take care on paths that can be damp near the river.

Between the large rock formations are fishing spots where visitors can catch mountain trout from the clear water. These quiet fishing areas remain well-stocked and offer a rare experience in a wild mountain setting.
