Hossawa Falls, Waterfall in Hinohara, Japan

Hossawa Falls drops through a forest in four separate cascades, with each tier at a different height and the total reaching approximately 60 meters. The water shows different flows and force at each drop level.

This waterfall became known during the Edo period and remains the only location in Tokyo Prefecture chosen for the nation's Top 100 Waterfalls list. This selection brought lasting recognition to the site.

This location was historically used for rain-calling rituals when drought affected the land. Such practices show how deeply water mattered to the people who lived here.

Access is through a woodland path from the municipal parking area, with a roughly 15-minute walk on a maintained trail. The route is well-kept and easy to follow.

During winter months, the falling water freezes and forms natural ice cascades. These frozen formations shift in appearance throughout the cold season.
