Mihara Domain, Japanese castle ruins in Mihara, Japan
The castle complex extended one kilometer from Akuhara River to Nishimachi and 600 meters from Mount Sakura to Umanokuchi, incorporating 32 corner towers and 14 gates.
Kobayakawa Takakage constructed Mihara Castle in 1567 at the mouth of Nuta River, using small islands to create a strategic naval base for the Mori clan.
The fortifications controlled the east-west Sanyodo highway route, directing travelers through narrow paths between stone walls, rivers, and the protective moat system.
The castle ruins sit directly at Mihara Station, accessible through the Sanyo Shinkansen, Sanyo Main Line, and Kure Line, with free admission to the site.
The base intended for the main keep remains the largest among all Japanese castles, though the keep itself was never completed during the structure's operational period.
