The Goto Akio Art Museum is a private art museum in Seki, Gifu Prefecture. The building is a single-story wooden house with simple design and warm materials, housing contemporary art pieces and works from local artist group members within a modest interior space of under 300 square meters.
The museum was completed in late 2020 and opened in early 2021 as a new venue for the local art scene. It is connected to the artistic work of Goto Akio and supports the long-established artist group VAVA in their contemporary creative pursuits.
The museum bears the name of artist Goto Akio and displays works by him alongside pieces from members of the local artist group VAVA. The space functions as a gathering point where the community comes together to experience and discuss contemporary art in an informal setting.
The museum opens only during scheduled exhibition periods, so check the schedule in advance. Sekiguchi Station is about 15 minutes walk away, and there are nearby bus stops; driving from the Seki interchange takes around 10 minutes.
The building functions simultaneously as a private residence and exhibition space, giving the place a lived-in, personal quality that sets it apart from commercial galleries. This dual purpose allows visitors to experience art and everyday space in close proximity.
