Ichibata-ji

Ichibata-ji sits on a hilltop, reached by climbing 1,200 stone steps that lead to the main hall. From this elevated location, the building overlooks a large lake and the mountains beyond.

The temple was founded in the late 800s and grew into a major center for Buddhist worship over the following centuries. Its reputation as a place of healing prayer developed during the medieval period.

Visitors come to pray for relief from eye problems, leaving small offerings as signs of their hopes for healing. This tradition of seeking wellness through prayer has drawn followers to this place for generations.

You can reach the temple by car, with parking available at the top of the hill. There is also a train station near the base if you prefer to travel by rail.

The grounds display colorful folklore figures linked to eye protection, scattered among the traditional buildings. These statues reflect the site's special role in local belief and practice.
