Nakanoto Agricultural Bridge, Cable-stayed bridge in Nanao, Japan
Nakanoto Agricultural Bridge is a cable-stayed crossing over Nanao Bay connected by two towers that hold steel suspension cables. The structure features a concrete deck supported by these cables, carrying both vehicles and pedestrians across the water.
Opened in 1999, the bridge created a second route to Notojima Island alongside an older crossing. It became key infrastructure for regional trade and travel between the two areas.
The bridge shapes daily life on the Noto Peninsula by helping farmers and their goods move quickly between the mainland and island. For local people, it represents more than just a road, it is a symbol of economic connection between the districts.
The bridge has a vehicle lane and a separate pedestrian path with open views across the bay. Visitors should be prepared for windy conditions and allow extra time when crossing during peak traffic.
After the 2007 earthquake, this bridge became the sole link to the island when the other crossing had to close for safety. It proved essential for emergency supplies and access to isolated communities.
