Kakogawachō, District in Kakogawa, Japan
Kakogawachō is a district in Kakogawa in Hyogo Prefecture combining residential neighborhoods with industrial facilities overlooking Harima Bay on the Seto Inland Sea. The area includes steel mills, refineries, and chemical plants mixed with typical city blocks and local amenities.
During the Edo period the area served as a strategic river port, then transformed into an industrial hub after rail connection arrived in 1888. This shift made it central to the Hanshin Industrial Area's growth.
The area maintains traditional Buddhist temples like Kakurin-ji while incorporating modern steel mills, refineries, and chemical processing facilities.
The district is well connected by the San'yō Main Line and San'yō Expressway, making travel easy for those passing through or exploring the area. Visitors can walk between residential and industrial sections and find local shops and services nearby.
Local restaurants here serve katsumeshi, a regional specialty combining thinly sliced beef, sauce, and rice in a distinctive way. This dish is rarely found outside the region and reflects local food traditions.
