Hachiōji City Children’s Museum of Science, Science museum and planetarium in Ōyokochō, Hachiōji, Japan
Hachiōji City Children's Museum of Science is a science museum and planetarium featuring interactive exhibit zones, space simulation areas, and live scientific demonstrations. The facility spans two floors and provides hands-on learning experiences for visitors of all ages.
The museum opened on January 28, 1989, and became a center for science education in the region. A comprehensive renovation in 2017 brought updated exhibits and improved the learning experience for visitors.
The Hachiōji Corner displays local objects including an elephant tusk and tells the story of a meteorite found in the area. These items connect the region's past with scientific discovery.
The museum is easy to navigate and allows plenty of time to explore the different exhibits at your own pace. Plan to spend several hours to fully experience all the interactive areas and the planetarium.
The second floor displays a one-tenth scale model of the International Space Station and a working simulator of the asteroid explorer Hayabusa. These exhibits let visitors understand Japan's space program in concrete terms.
