Amuse Museum, Art museum in Asakusa, Japan.
Amuse Museum was an art museum in Asakusa dedicated to Japanese textile arts across six exhibition floors. The rooms displayed handmade clothing, dyed fabrics, and traditional design pieces collected from regions across the country.
The museum opened in 2009 and was built around the extensive collection of textiles and historical items gathered by folklorist Chuzaburo Tanaka. It presented rotating exhibitions from this collection before closing in 2019.
The rooms display hand-dyed and embroidered fabrics that hang on the walls, showing how textile work shaped daily life in traditional Japan. These pieces reveal the skills that families passed down through generations in rural communities across the country.
The museum stood within walking distance of Sensoji Temple and was easy to reach from Asakusa Station via the Ginza Line and Tsukuba Express. The top floor housed a bar with views across the city.
The collection included Boro clothing, everyday wear made from fabric scraps that were sewn together and repaired over many years. These handmade pieces show how people reused garments until they were completely worn out.
