The museum opened its doors on November 25, 1973, with architecture designed by Kiyonori Kikutake to display the literary achievements of Yasushi Inoue.
The institution preserves the works of Yasushi Inoue, who received the Akutagawa Prize and Grand Prize of Japanese Literature for his novels and essays.
The museum charges 500 yen for adults and 400 yen for students, while elementary and middle school students can enter at no cost.
The building integrates with the natural landscape at the foothills of Mount Fuji, offering views of the Izu Peninsula mountains from its exhibition spaces.
