Taedongmoon Cinema

Taedongmoon Cinema sits along Sungri Street near the Taedong River in Pyongyang, with Greek-style columns gracing its front facade. The building contains two separate screening halls with seating for roughly 1,000 people.

The building was constructed in 1955 and opened in January 1956 as the first cinema to operate in North Korea. This opening marked the beginning of organized public film screenings in the nation.

The cinema serves as a gathering space where people watch state-approved films in a setting that reflects the broader architectural style of the city. Screenings here are important cultural events for residents.

The cinema is easily reached via the Chollima metro line at Sungri station. Visitors should be aware that screening times and availability are subject to local conditions and scheduling.
