Ōmori Castle, Feudal castle ruins in Ehime Prefecture, Japan

Ōmori Castle is a Japanese castle site located atop a hill in Ehime Prefecture, featuring the remaining stone foundations and earthen embankments of its medieval layout. The ruins show how the fortress was structured to control the surrounding landscape.

The fortress was built by the Ōmori clan in the 16th century and served as a defensive stronghold during the Sengoku period of civil conflict. The site played a role in territorial disputes among regional warlords of that era.

Visitors come here to connect with the story of the samurai warriors who lived and fought from this hilltop fortress. Local people maintain memories of the Ōmori clan's role in shaping the region's past.

The site is best visited on foot, as it sits on elevated terrain with hiking paths leading to the ruins. Wear sturdy shoes and allow time to walk through the different sections of the former fortress layout.

The fortress design cleverly incorporated the hillside itself, using water channels and earthen ramparts that made the slope part of the defense system. This approach to blending the natural hill with constructed barriers shows how terrain was actively used as a weapon in medieval warfare.
