Osaki Castle

Osaki Castle is a mountain fortress in Osaki City with earthen ramparts and multiple oblong enclosures spread across the hilly terrain. The site clearly shows the different levels and defensive stages that made up the original structure.

The Rusu clan built this fortress during the Muromachi and Sengoku periods as a defensive stronghold. It served to control the surrounding region during an era of frequent warfare and territorial change.

The site reflects traditional yamashiro design, showing how Japanese fortifications used terrain to their advantage for defense. You can see this strategy still visible in how the ground is shaped across the slopes.

The grounds are open to explore year-round and located about two kilometers from main transportation points in the city. Wear comfortable shoes since the hilly terrain and multiple levels can be demanding while walking around.

The original fortifications are hidden under natural growth today, but you can find surprisingly clear traces of ancient structures throughout the site. This blend of nature and ruins makes the place feel more like a forest than a castle, which catches many visitors off guard.
