Former Toba Elementary School Building

The former school is a two-story brick building with large windows that blends Japanese architectural elements with Western school design. Inside, wooden details and the original room layout remain intact.

Construction finished in 1929 during a period when Japan was building more modern schools and adopting Western educational ideas. The building represents this transition phase in early 20th-century Japanese architecture.

The building shows how schools in Japan looked and operated in the early 1900s. The classrooms are arranged in a way that reveals the teaching practices of that time.

The building is easily accessible on foot and has informational signs throughout the site. It is best to visit during daytime hours when natural light illuminates the interior spaces.

The original school desks and blackboards from the 1920s are still visible in the classrooms. These authentic items give a direct impression of what classroom life looked like at that time.
