Crkva Svete Trojice, Orthodox parish church in Ripanj, Serbia
Holy Trinity Church is a single-nave structure with a semi-cylindrical vault topped by two low domes resting on cubic pedestals. The layout follows orthodox architectural principles, creating an interior space organized around the iconostasis.
The current stone building replaced a wooden church that stood from 1820, with the new structure completed between 1892 and 1894 following Serbian architectural practices. This transition from wood to stone marked a major renewal of the parish.
The iconostasis displays icons from 1824 mounted on wooden partitions, with the royal doors showing gilded baroque floral decorations that reflect orthodox artistic traditions.
The church holds regular services and is accessible by public transport, with bus stops located near the Ripanj community center. Plan your visit around service times, as the doors are primarily open during worship hours.
From this location in 1804, military leader Karađorđe launched operations that would lead to Belgrade's liberation from Ottoman control. The site thus represents a convergence of religious practice and a turning point in Serbian resistance.
