Здание Оренбургского высшего военного авиационного Краснознамённого училища лётчиков, Military aviation institute building in Orenburg, Russia.
The Orenburg military aviation school building is a five-story brick structure with early 20th-century architectural features and functional spaces designed for pilot training. The complex contains multiple sections with distinct educational departments and maintains independent utility systems for operation.
The school was founded in 1921 in Moscow as an aviation institute for combat and bombing training and relocated to Orenburg in 1927. This move made it a major center for Soviet military pilot training in the region.
Yuri Gagarin, who became the first human in space, received his pilot training at this institute between 1955 and 1957.
The exterior can be viewed from outside the gates, though the site remains active and access to interior spaces may be limited. Visitors should check in advance about current visiting rules and any restricted areas.
The institute closed in 1993 after more than seven decades of operation, ending a significant era of Soviet military aviation training. Yet the building remains a testimony to the technical and educational achievements of that period.
