Maho Beach

Maho Beach is a narrow strip of sand along turquoise Caribbean waters, positioned directly beneath the landing path of aircraft approaching the airport. The shoreline is backed by restaurants, bars, and accommodations that cater to the steady flow of visitors throughout the day.

The location gained attention in the 1960s when runway expansion at Princess Juliana International Airport positioned landing aircraft at an extremely low altitude directly above the beach. This proximity between the airport and shoreline created an unusual arrangement that continues to draw curious onlookers.

The beach serves as a gathering place for people interested in aircraft, who come to watch and photograph planes as they approach for landing. This shared passion has made the location a special spot where visitors with similar interests meet and connect.

The beach is easily reached through Maho Village, where visitors can find food and drinks before or after spending time in the water. Sturdy footwear is recommended, as the sand gets stirred up by aircraft engines and winds can be strong when planes are near.
