Baie Rouge, Beach in Terres Basses, Saint-Martin, France.

Baie Rouge is a beach in Terres Basses stretching for about two miles with white sand bordered by reddish cliffs that reflect in the Caribbean waters. The eastern section has beach chairs and parking, while the western side remains undeveloped and more natural in appearance.

French colonists began settling near this bay in the 17th century, marking the start of European presence in this part of Saint-Martin. Those early settlements shaped how the surrounding area developed and continues to be organized today.

Beach restaurants and bars here serve traditional Caribbean food, and you can hear steel drum music during weekend gatherings when locals and visitors gather.

The eastern section is easier to reach and has parking areas plus beach chair rentals available, making it the most convenient part to visit. The western section takes more effort to access but offers fewer crowds and a more natural experience.

A coral reef system sits close to shore where tropical fish swim in shallow water that snorkelers can easily spot. This underwater world is surprisingly accessible and makes snorkeling rewarding even for beginners.
