Monga Night Market, Night market in Wanhua District, Taiwan.
Monga Night Market is an outdoor street market in the Wanhua District of Taipei, Taiwan, covering three city blocks along brightly lit lanes. Food stalls, massage services, and herbal medicine shops line both sides of narrow walkways where vendors display their goods.
The area was once known as Huaxi Street Night Market and in the 1970s it was a red-light district. Over that same decade it shifted into a gathering place for local food and crafts, a change that reshaped the character of the whole neighborhood.
Monga Night Market sits in Wanhua, the oldest settled neighborhood in Taipei, where vendors pass down recipes and craft methods that have changed little over the decades. Alongside modern food stalls, you can still find traditional Chinese herbal medicine shops run by families who have been here for generations.
The market is easy to reach on public transport, as Longshan Temple MRT station on the blue line is close by. Most stalls open after sunset, so an evening visit gives you the best chance of seeing the place at its fullest.
Three food stalls here have received Michelin recognition for regional dishes such as pork broth and gua bao wraps. This makes the market one of the few street food settings in Taiwan where open-air cooking meets that level of acknowledgment.
